Struvite is a real problem when it comes to sewerage treatment works. It furs up pipes much like limescale in a domestic environment only struvite is much harder. This means that heating the sludge inside the pipe becomes more expensive as it takes more power, and more time to reach the desired temperature. We have recently developed a new piece of equipment that will quite simply blast off the struvite from the pipe surface using a specially designed rotating nozzle combined with high pressure steam.
